The candles are handmade in Indonesia from 100% palm wax – a natural material from a rapidly renewable source, the fruit of the oil palm. Making palm wax is similar to producing essential oils – the oil is pressed and distilled. The same oil is used in many high-quality hand creams, shampoos and other cosmetics. It is a pure, GMO-free, practically food-grade raw material. Palm wax candles release no harmful toxins or soot when burning and burn down cleanly. The wax blend contains no paraffin, lead or zinc, and all wicks are made of pure cotton.
The product is made following Fair Trade principles, and production uses as much handwork as possible so that as many people as possible can earn a living. 80% of the candle makers are women. No animal-derived materials are used in making the candles. The candles are an eco-friendly product.
